The TNEA cutoff is a single number, out of 200, computed from your 12th standard marks: Maths + Physics/2 + Chemistry/2. Maths carries full weight (up to 100), while Physics and Chemistry are halved (up to 50 each). So if you scored 95 in Maths, 90 in Physics, and 88 in Chemistry, your cutoff is 95 + 45 + 44 = 184. This one number drives everything in TNEA — your rank, which counselling round you fall in, and which college-branch combinations you can realistically get. Note that "cutoff" is used in two senses: your cutoff (from your marks) and a college's closing cutoff (the lowest cutoff admitted there last year). Comparing the two is how you shortlist.
